Day 01- Arrive Delhi

Your journey begins before you land in India. Your thoughts are focused on the soon to have imagined the culture and the architecture, the food and the landscape and, as the plane lands in the capital city of Delhi, you are ready to experience it all.

Day 02-  Delhi

Morning visit old Delhi to see the Jama Masjid and red Fort built by Shahjehan between 1639-1648 symbolizing the Mughal Glory. Visit the Raj Ghat and Shanti Vana – the cremation sites of Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Drive past Chandni Chowk- the busy shopping centre of the walled city.

 

Later in the day you explore New Delhi  visiting Qutub Minar, built in 12th century, Humayun’s tomb, built in mid 16th century by Haji Begum-this edifice was a trend setter of the time in its layouts as all later Mughal monuments including the Taj Mahal followed its design. drive past President’s House, Parliament House and other Secretariat Buildings laid out by Lutyens in 1911. The Diplomatic Enclave where all the embassies are situated including those of special architectural interest such as American and the Swiss.

Day 03-  Delhi  – Agra  by road  ( 204 kms/ 3 hrs Approx.)

Today morning, you will drive to Agra The city is filled with historic beauty that shimmers in the sunlight, bringing decadent colours to the walls and towers, from the fort to the famous Taj Mahal. Once inside the celebrated grounds of one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World you can look out over the open space. At the far end of the garden is the mausoleum, constructed with white marble that captures shifting light throughout the day.

Across the Yamuna River is the Mehtab Bagh, also called the Moon Lit Garden, which stretches over 950 square feet and is aligned perfectly with the Taj Mahal. When you stand within the garden you find an unadulterated view of the icon across the water, almost like a crowning jewel, framed by the trees and hedges that run up to the edges of the riverbank.

Also visit the magnificent Agra fort – one of the most important and strongly built strongholds of the Mughals, with richly decorated buildings of Mughal style of art and architecture. It was constructed by the third Mughal emperor Akbar with red sandstone, 4000 builders daily worked on it and it took 8 years  to be completed(1565-1573).

Day 04-Agra – Gwalior by road (119  kms / 2 ½ hrs Approx.)

Today you leave for Gwalior, this city is  best known for being the birthplace of the great musician, Tansen and also popular for its rich cultural heritage and glorious history.

Visit the palaces and temples, including the Sas Bahu Ka Mandir intricately carved Hindu temple. Ancient Gwalior Fort occupies a sandstone plateau overlooking the city and is accessed via a winding road lined with sacred Jain statues. Within the fort’s high walls is the 15th-century Gujari Mahal Palace, now an archaeological museum.

Day 05-Gwalior – Jhansi (by train) Jhansi  – Khajuraho

Morning transfer to Gwalior railway station to board train to Jhansi.  From Jhansi , you drive to Khajuraho, a quiet village in Madhya Pradesh which is fast metamorphosing into a tourist town. The place has been drawing a number of foreign tourists to it since the last two decades. The village of Khajuraho became famous amongst the international tourist circuit after its sculptures were discovered in 1838. Some believe them to be physical embodiments of the greatest thesis on love- The Kama Sutra. The name Khajuraho is derived from the Khajur (Date Palm) trees that line the borders of the village.

Visit the famous 11th century temples of Khajuraho. The temples were built during the Chandela period, Around the temples are bands of intricately carved stone work detailing Indian life and style a millennium ago. There are also various acts from the famous Kamasutra depicted on these monolithic temples.

Day 06- Khajuraho  – Orchha by road ( 173 kms / 3 ½ hrs Approx)

Drive to  Orchha. Orchha  (meaning Hidden place) the picturesque city of Orchha situated on the banks of the River Betwa, was founded in 16th century A.D. by Rudra Pratap Singh who was one of the Rajput rulers belonging to the Bundela Dynasty.. It’s one of the most scenic places in Madhya Pradesh. The river water of Betwa forms one of the main sources of water for the wildlife living within.

Evening visit the Ram temple for Aarti .

Day 07-  Orchha – Bhopal  by train

Transfer to Jhansi railway station to board train for Bhopal.

It’s one of India’s greenest cities with two main lakes, the Upper Lake and the Lower Lake. On the banks of the Upper Lake is Van Vihar National Park, home to tigers, lions and leopards. The State Museum has fossils, paintings and rare Jain sculptures. Visit  Taj-ul-Masjid which is one of Asia’s largest mosques, with white domes, minarets and a huge courtyard.

Evening enjoy a cup of tea at a lake facing restaurant to enjoy the sunset.

Day 08-Bhopal –  Indore  by road ( 195 kms / 4 hrs Approx.)

Sanchi is a small village situated in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh. This village is most famous for its Buddha stupas also called Sanchi Stupa and monuments. The beauty of this village is enhanced by the presence of these beautiful pillars, shrines, stupas the existence of which can be found between 3rd and 12th century AD.

Later you drive to Indore the commercial capital also  known for its architectural splendor

Day 09- Indore – Mandu – Maheshwar  by road ( 131 kms   /  3 ½ hrs Approx)

Take an excursion to Mandu a fairytale city with amazing architecture and a tribute to the love shared between the poet prince Baz Bahadur and his beautiful consort Rani Rupmati.  Some of these attractions include Jahaz Mahal, Jami Masjid, Hindola Mahal, Baz Bahadur’s Palace, Rewa Kund and many more. All the monuments of Mandu present a unique architecture which gives an magnetic attraction to the history and culture.

Drive further to Maheshwar today.

Day 10-Maheshwar

Maheshwar, a temple town on the bank of River Narmada, mentioned in the great Hindu epics ‘Ramayana & Mahabharata’, a glorious city . A visit to the 16th century fort and is famous for its elegant architecture & spectacular view from Narmada River is now a Heritage hotel .It is located on the bank of river from where one can enjoy best view of river, boating, sunrise and sunset. It was constructed by a great queen Ahalya Bai Holkar as  her residential place, a queen India ever had seen.  You have time to visit the ghats and walk through the narrow lanes .

Maheshwar is known for its textiles as well, you get some time to visit the Rewa weavers at the Fort complex .

Day 11- Maheshwar to Indore by road ( 95 kms / 1 ½ Approx.)Indore to Mumbai

Travel to Indore airport to board flight to Mumbai.

Arrive Mumbai which is the largest city and undoubtedly the commercial capital of India.. Mumbai was originally a conglomeration of seven islands on the Konkan coastline which over time were joined to form the island city of Bombay. The city has an estimated metropolitan population of 21 million (2005), making it one of the world’s most populous cities. Mumbai’s nature as the most eclectic and cosmopolitan Indian city is symbolized in the presence of Bollywood within the city, the centre of the globally-influential Hindi film and TV industries. It is also home to India’s largest slum population.

Afternoon city tour visiting the Gateway of India-built during the period 1924-1927 to commemorate the visit to India of King George V, of England in 1911. The Gateway is a popular promenade along with sea. Visit the prince of Wales Museum – the Victorian domed structure contains a fine collection of miniature paintings. Its three sections are on Art, Archaeology and Natural history. The museum’s style of architecture is Indo-Saracenic. Visit the 8- meter Rajabai Clock tower – the gothic style Mumbai University clock tower built in the last century. The Victoria terminus is considered the most beautiful edifice in the city. This sprawling structure blends both Gothic and Indian architectural styles. Drive past Nariman point to Malabar Hill which is a winding stretch of road along the sea with tall buildings on one side.
