Sunderbans

This tour can be planned as an extension from Kolkata .The Sundarbans is a UNESCO World Heritage site . It is a cluster of low-lying islands in the Bay of Bengal, spread across India and Bangladesh, famous for its unique mangrove forests. This active delta region is among the largest in the world, measuring about 40,000 sq km.The Sundarbans forest is about 10,000 sq km across India and Bangladesh, of which 40% lies in India, andis the largest reserves for the Royal Bengal tiger with other many rare and globally threatened wildlife species .

Day 01-Kolkata –  Sundarbans   by road / boat

Morning  drive to Sonakhali / Godhkhali  Jetty, journey of about 3 hrs.  From there take the motor boat ride to reach the resort in the Islands.  This journey would take you down the rivers Hugil, Gomar, Durgaduni and Gumdi in about an 1 ½ hrs

After lunch, set off on motor boat and view wildlife from the Sajnekhaliwatchtower . Most of the tigers are sighted from this tower. Some other wildlife like axis deers, wild boars and crocodiles may also be seen from this watch tower. Also visit the Sajnekhali Museum and Mangrove Interpretation Centre.

Day 02-Sundarbans National Park

Today  you  cruise  through the deep creeks  covering the watchtowers of BurirDabri, Kumirmari as well as the forest of MorichJhapi.

Burirdabri in Sundarbans national Park is famous for its watchtower, a mudwalk and mangrove cage trail leading to a viewpoint known as Raimongal View Point.  You enjoy the sights and sounds of nature resplendent in her pristine virginal beauty.

Day 03-Sundarbans National Park

The third day involves a full day cruise through the rivers and narrow creeks of the Sundarbans National Park and a lovely birding experience. Food would be prepared and served on the motor boat.  You need to start the day early for  getting a nice birding experience.  Cruiseing deep in and around the islands of the Sundarban Tiger Project Area..From the Netidhopani  watchtowerget a view of the ruins of a 400 year old Shiva Temple. It is also believed that there is a road on the extreme right of the forest which was built by King Pratapaditya  to guard the coastal area. It is now covered with earth.

Day04-Sundarbans – Kolkata

In the morning, we cruise along the creeks and take you for a village tour to the southernmost village of South 24 Parganas.Meet the fishermen, the Honey Collectors as well as the woodcutters and share their experiences of the Jungle.
